If you want a place to reveal itself to you, you must learn its true name. The first European to visit the woods that we now call home was hosted by the locals in an indigenous village that was later abandoned in the flurry of colonization. The precise location of Adshusheer has been lost, but this strangely sibilant word lingers like a mantra on our tongues.
These songs are a magical realist projection. They are seeds of myth. They were rehearsed in a pine grove, and recorded in a cabin at the forests edge. We dedicate this album to the genius loci, the protective spirit of this land who permitted us to create an album in her honor. We hope to have captured some of the darkness, mystery, and joy that lingers among these trees.
The River Otters
The River Otters are Robinson Earle (Guitar), Michael Buckley (Bass), and David Barrett (Drums/Organ). They are a post-folk trio from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The eclectic scope of their largely instrumental music can be explored on their most recent offering, a concept record about fatherhood and the forest that surrounds Robinson’s home. “Adshusheer” is available on all major streaming services, and as a limited edition 180g Vinyl.

Last Day Deaf
Combining folk and global influences with a Jazz sensibility, The River Otters make inventive instrumental music that defies easy categorization. Their influences range from the rustic tone poems of American Primitivist pioneer, John Fahey, to the raga-infused meditations of Alice Coltrane. Their carefully crafted compositions transport the listener to a vivid landscape filled with longing, mystery, whimsy, and occasionally danger.
